The village of Ses Salines Natural Park
This rural parish, which forms part of the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, developed around salt-making, a practice whose origins date back to Phoenician times. Like other scattered rural settlements on the island, it consists solely of the church, the parish house – now home to the Ses Salines Interpretation Centre – and a couple of farmhouses.
What to see in Sant Francesc de S’Estany
A visit to this village is a visit to the Ses Salines de Eivissa i Formentera Natural Park, an area of great environmental and ethnographic value that is also home to two unspoilt beaches. Whether in summer or on a winter’s morning, we recommend you visit the simple church of San Francisco de Paula, learn about the values protected by the nature reserve by visiting the Ses Salines Interpretation Centre, and gaze out over the horizon from the defence towers of Sa Sal Rossa and Ses Portes; and to visit the beaches of Es Cavallet – nestled between the sea and the salt pans – and Ses Salines, famous for its crystal-clear waters and atmosphere. At its southern end, you can also see the salt-harbour of Sa Canal.
Fancy a walk? In the off-season, enjoy a pleasant stroll along the salt pans from Ses Salines beach to Cap des Falcó, where you can watch beautiful sunsets.
