Heritage, Beach, and Fun for All Ages
Located on the eastern coast of Ibiza, the town of Santa Eulària des Riu takes its name from the only river in the Balearic Islands, which emerges just before it flows into the sea and played a vital role in the town’s development. With a heritage rooted equally in farming and seafaring, today Santa Eulària stands out for its remarkable historical heritage, wide range of tourist attractions, and lively local atmosphere. No matter when you visit Ibiza, this is a must-see destination!
What to See in Santa Eulària
Any first visit to Santa Eulària should begin at Puig de Missa, an iconic architectural complex built on a hill that takes its name from the 16th-century fortified church that crowns it—one of the finest examples of its kind on the island. After the must-see visit to the church, you’ll find the Ibiza Con Ros Ethnographic Museum, housed in a 300-year-old traditional home; and the Can Planetes River Interpretation Center, where you’ll learn about the importance of the flour-milling industry in the development of Santa Eulària.
The Sala Barrau, S’Alamera Boulevard, and the old bridge are other tourist attractions in the town that you can discover by following the self-guided circular route “La Ruta del Río,” which begins in front of the Santa Eulària City Hall. And to relax after your walk, head to Santa Eulària Beach and the restaurants and outdoor cafes along the boardwalk, the marina, and the pedestrian streets of Sant Jaume and Sant Vicent.
A tip: In the summer, spend a whole day in Santa Eulària so you can enjoy the museums, monuments, beach, and local cuisine.
