Ibiza 2023 World Multisport Championship Summary

Ibiza hosts the Ibiza 2023 Multisport World Championship, in which more than 4,000 people of 62 different nationalities will participate. The inauguration of this great event took place in Santa Eulalia on the 28th of April at 18:00. The event was attended by the president of World Triathlon and IOC member Marisol Casado, José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation and representatives of the Consell d Eivissa and the town councils of Santa Eulalia Des Riu, San Antonio de Portmany and Ibiza, the 3 venues that will host the Ibiza 2023 World Multisport Championships.

The first competition was the Sprint Duathlon that took place in Santa Eulalia, where Mario Mola was proclaimed winner, winning the first medal for the Spanish triathlon team. Mario Mola led throughout the race, dominating the first running segment and the cycling section, which he was well placed throughout. Second and third place went to the Frenchmen Benjamin Choquert and Krilan Le Bihan.

As for the women's race, the Spanish Marí Varó, took fifth place, classifying as the best Spaniard; ahead of Sonia Bejarano 13th, Marta Borbón 15th and Marta Cabello 25th. The gold medal went to Great Britain's Emma Pallant.

The second event was the aquathlon, which also took place in Santa Eulalia on . The winner of this event was Cristian Fernández, who managed to win the gold medal. He performed spectacularly throughout the course, but reached his peak when he overtook Great Britain's Lund to take first place. However, Britain's Christopher Perham and Jimmy Lund took silver and bronze on the podium

In this third event, the Spanish Triarmada managed to win its third medal. A bronze medal was won by Eva García in the cross duathlon, with a heart-stopping finish as she managed to overtake her rival in the last metres. The Spaniard took bronze, Switzerland's Anna Zehnder took silver and the Netherlands' Diede Diederiks won the long-awaited gold medal.

In the second event in San Antonio, France's Felix Forissier and Italy's Sandra Mairhofer took gold in their respective categories. On this occasion there was no luck for the Spanish team, which obtained two fifth places in the different categories.

And we reached the final stretch of this great championship with the last stop in the city of Ibiza. Here took place the final event, the LD triathlon. Spain finished in the best possible way getting a double medal. Firstly, the Spaniard Antonio Benito won the silver medal, proclaiming himself as runner-up of the world, just behind the Frenchman Clement Mignon who won the first place. In the women's category, Spain's Gurutze Frades won bronze, winning her first World Championship medal after competing in 7 World Championships. The gold was won by the French Marjolaine Pierre, and the silver by the Swedish Sara Svensk.

Thus ended the World Multisport Championship Ibiza 2023, with France being the team that won the most medals with a total of 7, followed by Spain, who won 5 medals. And in third position Great Britain, with a total of 3 medals. This was the end of a world championship that will remain engraved in the history of the island.
