Sant Carles de Peralta

Sant Carles is the cradle of the Ibizan hippie movement that lived here throughout the 60's. The main hippie markets of the island are located here.

The Town
In the old days, each parish was composed by several areas; therefore, even today each parish owns several regions. Sant Carles regions form the eastern part of the municipality, and they are composed by gorgeous interior and coastal landscapes. The church was the heart of the towns’ construction at the end of the 18th century.

The church has one of the most remarkable column porches (”porxos”) of the entire rural area of the island. The location of the temple stands out for its beautiful scenery (highly praised by the Archduke Luis Salvador). Inside the church you will find an old-fashioned confessional booth that probably dates back to the 19th century. In this parish you can visit the hippie markets of Punta Arabí and Las Dalias. These markets still share the hippie spirit of the 60’s that deeply influenced the island’s personality.
