Puig des Molins Necropolis

At the end of the 12th century, The Phoenicians settled in Puig de Vila and its surroundings, and founded an area in the bay that became the original core of the city. It started being used as a necropolis and it managed to reach an extension of almost 10,000 m2 on a specific area at the foot of the mount.

During Punic period (from the 6th century to the end of the 1st century BC), the necropolis had an enormous growth due to city development. Its was approximately 5 hectares in size.

During Roman period (4th century AD), the cemetery area covered the lower part of Puig des Molins to the north all the way to the present Avenida de España, and even the present Calle Aragón during the Late Antiquity (6th-8th centuries AD). This necropolis became UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
