Plogging Tour returns to Ibiza. Trendy sport is a key element for social transformation

More than 16,000 participants have travelled more than 1,130 kilometres in 12 Spanish cities and recovered more than 36,000 kilos of waste in nature since 2018 when the Plogging community was born on the island of Ibiza.

The 3rd edition of the Nationale-Nederlande Plogging returns to Ibiza on 9 October. This network of citizens and organisations, Haz Deporte por el Planeta, in collaboration with the Consejo Superior de Deportes, 12 city councils, 6 regional governments and more than 200 organisations, promotes, through sport and physical activity in the open air, the recovery of natural spaces and the conservation of green areas in cities and towns.

Plogging is the sport in vogue in many countries, it is characterised by being a collaborative activity for all ages, levels and physical condition, which in just a few years has allowed it to spread across all continents among professionals, beginners and people who are not very keen on physical activity.

Plogging achieves a global impact by acting locally and can be practised on land or water, alone, with your family, with your pet, with friends or in Team Building days with work colleagues. Any day and any time of the year is a good time to do sport for the planet.

The Plogging community promotes since 2020 the Nationale-Nederlanden Plogging Tour in cities such as Malaga, A Coruña, Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valencia, Seville, Teruel or Mallorca, and next October 9th starts its third edition in Spain and does it once again on the island of Ibiza with the support of local entities such as the Ajuntament de Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Consell Insular d'Eivissa, the sponsorship of the Agencia de Estratégica Turística de las Islas Baleares AETIB and three circuits, of between 2 and 11 kilometres for families, beginners and experts, which combine disciplines such as hiking, running, kayaking, diving, skating and cycling, with care for the environment and the conservation of its biodiversity, through the collection of rubbish found along the way in urban environments, trails, beaches, forests and protected areas of the Naura 2000 Network.

Places are limited and are available on the Plogging website. 100% of the registration fee is social solidarity to benefit APNEEF (Association of People with Special Needs of Eivissa and Formentera).

Doing sport for the Planet helps not only to get fit, reconnect with nature and combat sedentary lifestyles, but also to promote the transition towards more sustainable communities that promote through sport and physical activity, the conservation of the natural heritage of each territory.

Ploggers, as these purpose-driven athletes are known around the world, are particularly aware of the importance of maintaining heart-healthy habits to improve people's quality of life, and of contributing to the conservation and restoration of natural spaces and urban areas where sport and physical activity are practised in the open air.

Damián Quintero, María Torres, Borja Vives and Coralina Navarro are some of the Olympic athletes who have joined this trend and have helped to promote the practice of plogging through the Plogging Tour events in their cities.

Benefits of PLOGGING

-Take care of your health and that of your environment: littering has become an environmental catastrophe of overwhelming dimensions that affects not only flora and fauna, but also human beings. Every cigarette butt, every piece of paper, every piece of plastic, every bottle that is collected in every part of the planet by Plogging, is important to avoid the degradation or destruction of habitats and to prevent them from becoming a source of diffuse pollution, often invisible, but with unpredictable consequences on a large scale.

-Promotes healthy habits: in terms of physical activity and promoting healthy lifestyle habits, on average, it is estimated between 288 and 300 calories in half an hour of Plogging compared to 235 calories in half an hour of regular jogging.

-Opportunity to improve yourself and feel part of the change: the practice of Plogging as a physical and sporting activity, gives you the opportunity to improve yourself and feel an active part of the change, as it contributes to your health, increases energy and physical capacity by improving the oxygenation of the body, increases bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis, burns calories, gaining muscle and improving your fitness, reducing the risk of heart problems and increasing lung capacity.
